Tips for Dealing with the Loss of a Loved One

In addition to experiencing the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance; you may need to cope with a roller coaster of intense emotions including, sadness, fear, rage, doubt, and pain. Even though these represent normal reactions to the loss of a loved one, these are still difficult emotions to experience. While there are many ways to grieve over a serious loss, and each individual may find relief in his or her own way, several coping methods can help.
Defined as “emotional suffering that occurs after a significant loss,” grief is normal and natural. In many instances, the more significant the loved one was, the more intense the grief. Moreover, the death of any loved one, whether spouse, child, parent, friend, or pet, can result in sorrow.
